Cayenne ~ How Much and for What Problems

Aztec royalty, during the height of their empire, enjoyed a combination of Chocolate and Cayenne as a drink or dish reserved only for royalty.

HOW CAYENNE WORKS:

The Active Constituents of Cayenne are a resinous and pungent substance known as capsaicin, which is a chemical that relieves pain and itching by acting on sensory nerves. Capsaicin temporarily stimulates release of various neurotransmitters, switching off pain. The active constituents have several other actions including reducing platelet stickiness and acting as antioxidants.

Botanical Name: Capsicum

HOW MUCH TO TAKE:

If you are unaccustomed to HOT foods: use one drop in at least 4 oz of water or vegetable juice or added to Smootheez. . Keep increasing by one drop more per day until you get to your tolerable amount or a level ¼ teaspoon at a time. After you reach a level ¼ teaspoon you may follow the instructions for those accustomed to HOT foods next. Stir into a small amount of water and drink before eating.

If you are accustomed to HOT foods: start with a small amount of 40 thousand Scoville* CARLOS note that this leads to the answer at * below units of Cayenne by taking a level ¼ teaspoon or one size “0” capsule full. Stir into a small amount of water and drink before eating twice a day. Gradually increase amount over a period of a year to eighteen months, until one teaspoon is being consumed three times a day. Over time you can take Cayenne on an empty stomach but start out gradually first.

In a Gargle: ½ oz of liquid cayenne tincture to 8 oz of water for throat problems.

In a cream: Creams would generally contain 0.025 – 0.075% capsaicin. A burning sensation is normally felt the first few times of use, but gradually diminishes with use. Be certain to wash the hands thoroughly after application of any products containing Cayenne constituents. Wearing gloves for a topical application is a good idea. Keep product away from the eyes, nose or mouth, to prevent the burning sensation there. Creams should not be applied on broken skin.

A tincture may be used in the amount of 0.3 – 1 ml up to 3 times daily topically, mixed in an oil or cream base. Do not put directly on skin without diluting.

Taking an ounce or more internally will cause unwanted diarrhea. A higher than this intake may aggravate/cause ulcers in the stomach. There are no other side effects if taken according to directions.

Anyone can have an allergic reaction to any product, so test patch topically and start with small amounts internally when first using Cayenne products.

If at any time you feel a burning sensation in your mouth from Cayenne , slowly drink a glass of milk to help wash away the capsaicin in the Cayenne .

There is an Official Chile Heat Scale that rates all peppers from 0 – 10. The smaller in size, the hotter the pepper.
