CAISSE CANCER FORMULA

ESSIAC: A Native Herbal Cancer Remedy

1996 by Cynthia Olsen with contribution by Dr Jim Chan. An easy introduction to the history and development of Essiac. It also includes testimonials, resources and a bibliography. While Nurse Caisse was able to achieve an 80% recovery rate with her formula, the author is quick to point out that “there isn’t a magic bullet that can treat and cure cancer” and cautions the reader to explore all options and become as informed as possible. This little book is a good beginning in that direction.

Slippery Elm inner bark (Ulmus Fulva)

Principal component is mucilage which helps the body cleanse itself of toxic waste.  It helps nourish and restore plasma in the blood and lymph in the lymphatic system.  It improves intestinal flora and soothes asthma. It also helps relieve acids from indigestion and eczema.

Essiac, given its name by Rene Caisse ("caisse" spelt backwards), consists of four main herbs that grow in the wilderness of Ontario , Canada . The original formula is believed to have its roots in native Canadian Ojibway medicine. Nurse Rene Caisse ran her Cancer Clinic in Bracebridge from 1934 to 1942. She rented the clinic from the city for $1.00 per month. Rene never accepted money from her patients for her care. She helped give hope and health to hundreds.

The four main herbs that make up Essiac are Burdock Root, Slippery Elm Inner Bark, Sheep Sorrel and Indian Rhubarb Root. You may click on each herb for a more detailed description.

The four herbs may help normalize body systems by cleansing the blood, purging toxic build up, promoting cell repair and aiding in effective assimilation and elimination. When combined it is believed that their separate beneficial effects are enhanced.

Given modern interest in naturopathic medicine and progress in scientific understanding of the human immune system, Essiac remains at the forefront of alternative formulas.

If you are considering purchasing Essiac, there are certainly a multitude of websites that offer it. However, many of these sites provide confusing and conflicting information. Some make incorrect or outrageous claims about their product. Common sense is the best policy in determining from where to purchase Essiac.

Remember that it is illegal to claim that Essiac can cure anything. It is sold only as an herbal dietary supplement.

The Essiac product is the one originally owned by Rene Caisse herself and now developed by the company she sold the formula to.
